Design and control of the cumene process
WebThe cumene process exhibits some interesting design and control features. It provides a clas-sical example of the engineering trade-off between reactor size and recycle flowrate. Design optimization variables affect capital and energy costs. But they also affect conversion and selectivity, which have a very large impact on raw material costs. WebCumene is manufactured by alkylation of benzene with propylene. In the phenol—acetone process, cumene is oxidized in the Hquid phase thermally to cumene hydroperoxide. The hydroperoxide is spHt into phenol and acetone by a cleavage reaction catalyzed by sulfur dioxide. Up to 2% of the cumene is converted to a-methylstyrene.

WebFeb 1, 2024 · A compact single-unit process is developed for continuous cumene manufacture via the alkylation of benzene with propylene. The design combines reactive distillation (RD) and dividing-wall separation in a single column. In terms of the TAC, it is significantly cheaper (42%) than the conventional “reaction followed by separation … WebOct 19, 2024 · A reactor for Cumene production process has been modeled. Cumene production is a Catalytic condensation process. To yield high purity Cumene (Isopropyl benzene), it uses solid phosphoric acid (SPA) catalyst which promote the alkylation of benzene with propylene in the presence of Propane.
